Our Vision  
 

A question a lot of people ask when they’re checking out a church they’ve never been to before is, “What kind of church are you?”

The truest answer is that the only way to find out is for you to get to know us.  People can say all kinds of things but the proof comes, not in our intentions or imaginations but in the experience a person has in our community.

With that upfront, we do have a vision of the kind of church God wants us to be.  That vision, no matter how clear it seems at the moment, is also organic, it grows and changes as we do and as God adds to our community.

It’s in our heart to be...a church that lives as an open circle where everyone is welcome, no one feels stuck and is always looking to freely share what we’ve freely received!  We hope that people in our community will feel supported even as we keep our focus outward – an outflow of God’s life in us to the world we’re in.

We want to grow lasting friendships and a real sense of being family.  We’ll do that one on one or in small groups who will make relationship our first priority no matter the reason given for meeting together.

Our community is not apart from the greater community we live in but an active part of the world we live in.  We want people to be glad we’re here as we share God’s love in relevant ways.   We’re trying to emphasize that the best way to tell people about Jesus is to reveal Him by the way we live, love and let people know what He’s done in us and for us.

God is bigger than words and we intend to embrace and empower the artists among us to reveal what the Spirit is saying to us and our world through music, painting, dance, drama or any of the arts.  A song can be used by God to touch us in ways that logic and reason fall flat.  God is creative if He is anything at all and He’s made us to reflect His creative image.

We believe we’re not alone in this.  We’re grateful for every light that shines around us.  Our heart is to connect to and work together with other communities that have set their hearts on following Jesus.  The Kingdom is bigger than our church.

If things happen around here we believe it starts with prayer.  There is nothing more powerful than a man or woman on their knees, pouring their heart out to God – unless it’s a bunch of friends on their knees together.

As a church we want to emphasize that our mission doesn’t depend on any one person, pastor, preacher or apostle.  What our mission depends on is the Holy Spirit empowering every one of us with a unique gift and calling.  When you reach out and touch a life, that’s leadership and that’s the church in action. 

Sometimes we go beyond our neighbour and beyond our city and Island.  Sometimes we work together, share our resources and we send teams of people or individuals to other parts of the world to share the hope and love we’ve found in God through Jesus.  Everyone is a candidate for these teams.

We’re the kind of church that desires to be honest, authentic and aware of our weaknesses and imperfections.  We believe that it’s a gift to be real and life is too short for pretend and pretence.  We believe there are a lot of great churches in this city and on this Island but if you’d like to belong here, you’re welcome.
